Sometimes I feel really inspired, as if I've been given some special information or knowledge or direction. And I usually then look for an obvious association that caused me to feel as if I'm the recipient of a special, perhaps even divine, message. I'm careful because I know that that inner voice of wisdom could just be my ego wearing sheep's clothing

Evidently our President does feel like he has a special connection with the divine. While meeting with Amish folks, he said: At the end of the session, Bush reportedly told the group, "I trust God speaks through me. Without that, I couldn't do my job." I don't know about you, dear reader, but this worries me. So what does our President do when he believes God is speaking to him? How does he know it's God and not some other force? Did God persuade him that he needed to invade Iraq?

And what would happen if God decided not to send our President any more messages? Would he be able to continue to serve as President or would he have to step down. I'm very suspicious of revelation as a substitute for competence to do the job.

If you can laugh at both candidates for President check out the great video on JibJab.com. Very entertaining. My son and I were debating which candidate the authors were really for or against. You decide.

I don't remember much of my dreaming but have always wanted to. In the 80's I was part of one of Rev. Jeremy Taylor's dream groups with my girlfriend Cheryl. At that time, I was keeping a dream journal and had interesting dreams. Nowadays, I'm just too busy and don't sleep more than six or seven hours a night. So I found this article about lucid dreaming in the New York Times quite interesting. It describes a 9 day dream holiday lead by Stephen LaBerge of the Lucidity Institute in Palo Alto. The holiday takes the participant to Hawaii (for $2000 excluding air fare) and gives them assistance in lucid dreaming. I'd love to go but don't think I can spare the change right now.
So I'm off to dream land tonight and hopefully I can have one!

I'm beginning this web log as a way to share my ideas and thoughts with my congregation and anyone else who likes to read my web site.  Right now I'm only able to publish to my congregation once a month in my newsletter column and weekly through my sermons.  This limits the kind of communication I can have with people.  I'd like to share more of myself and I think this will be an effective way to do it.

Anyway, happy trails in the sand!  Sam
